(GIDEA PARK, ESSEX)

TEXT

Christ the Eternal Priest is an octagonal church in Gidea Park in Essex. GTA was commissioned to help bring natural light into the main church (the nave) as it was a very dark space. We replaced all the windows and doors with a grey aluminium frame with an etched Chi Rho symbol on the lower panes. The ancillary spaces were also very dated and GTA had to bring these spaces in line with modern-day standards.

GTA introduced a lantern of roof lights at the highest point of the church roof. This transformed the main church into a lighter brighter and more welcoming space. Other works included creating level access into the church to make it accessible. In addition to remodelling the existing WC space to also make it accessible to all. The narthex and the reconciliation room were all given a contemporary feel with joinery pieces’ design by ourselves. This can be found in the product section of our portfolio of works.
